Therapy & Assessment

Couples Therapy

Psychological therapy for couples experiencing communication difficulties, conflict, relationship strain or major transitions.

Understanding what happens between you

Couples often seek therapy because the same disagreements keep recurring, communication has become difficult, emotional closeness has diminished, or pressures elsewhere in life have begun to affect the relationship.

The task is not simply to decide who is right or wrong. Therapy seeks to understand the patterns that have developed between partners, what each person experiences within those patterns, and what happens when the relationship comes under stress.

Reasons couples may seek help

  • recurrent conflict or communication difficulties
  • emotional distance or loss of connection
  • stress associated with work, family or health
  • major life changes and transitions
  • differences that have become increasingly difficult to manage
  • the effects of individual psychological difficulties on the relationship

Working collaboratively

Where couples therapy is appropriate, the aim is to create a setting in which both people can be heard and the relationship can be considered as a whole. From there we can work toward clearer communication, greater understanding and more constructive ways of responding to difficulties.
